Sample Plan for New Students

The sample shows a typical plan to complete the degree based on current degree requirements and course offerings, and is not the only possible plan. The number of credits for each course is in parentheses. Some classes have prerequisites, and the order of courses in the sample plan accounts for these. Each new student, in consultation with their advisor, will complete a personal academic plan tailored to their specific goals and interests.

The example below assumes that you enter ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ with junior standing (90 credits), have earned a transferable associate degree, and have successfully completed an equivalent to the following:

Important Major Information

  • Minimum Credits to Graduate: 120 semester credits or 180 quarter credits
  • Credits in Major: 42 semester credits or 70 quarter credits
  • Minimum Major GPA: 2.75 (semester) or 2.0 (quarter)
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 2.0

Curriculum Notes

  • Entry into the major requires a 2.75 grade point average.
  • All majors must obtain a minimum grade of C (2.00) in PSYC 2050, 2400, 3030, 3050.
  • It is up to you to choose which two classes to take out of these 3 PSYC options, but you have to take two of them: PSYC 3440 Cognitive Psychology, PSYC 3040 Biological Basis of Learning and Memory, PSYC 4160 Health Psychology.
  • No more than 6 total credit hours of independent study and/or practicum are permitted. Up to 6 credits of courses graded CR may apply towards major.
  • All majors must complete at least 18 credits in the major at SU. PSYC 2050, 3030, 3050, 4030, and 4890 must be completed at SU.

  • No more than 10 total credit hours of independent study and/or practicum are permitted. Up to 10 credits of courses graded CR may apply towards major.
  • All majors must complete at least 30 credits in the major at SU. PSYC 2050, 2030, 3050, 4030, and 4890 must be completed at SU.
  • PSYC 2050 must be taken by spring of junior year and before PSYC 3030, 3050, 3700, and 4890.
